Organic Sunscreen Healthy Tan
By · CommentsOrganic sunscreen refers to all natural ingredient sunscreens. The majority of sun screens and sun blocks are made up of various chemicals – many are carcinogenic (cause cancer). It seems counterproductive to protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays to prevent skin cancer when the chemicals you are applying to your skin promote cancer. Of the 2 forms of radiation, uva and uvb, uva is the most damaging (UVB actually creates vitamin D in the skin).
Sunscreens are rated via SPF – Sun Protection Factor. It is a value of the amount of time you can be exposed to the sun before you burn. As an example, if you burn in 10 minutes of exposure to direct sunlight, using an SPF 30 will allow you to be in the sun for a factor of 30 or 300 minutes (5 hours) before burning. How fast you burn is dependent upon your skin’s solar sensitivity, the time of year, and latitude north or south of the equator (how strong the sun’s rays are).
Sunshine (during your respective summer) creates the best form of vitamin D (D3) and is a major health boost for your body. The use of sunscreen lotions and sunblock lotions prevent the creation of vitamin D so their use is questionable. A good 10 to 20 minutes sunbathing will produce more vitamin d3 than you need, at that point you can consider applying an organic sunscreen lotion to protect your skin from burning, skin damage and wrinkles.
Dangerous Chemicals in Non-Organic Sunscreens / Sunblocks
- Parabens – Endocrine disruptors
- Octyl salicyclate
- Sodium laurel, lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate – becomes nitrosamine
- Avobenzone
- Mineral oil – clogs pores, disrupts hormonal function
- Oxybenzone
- Propylene glycol – Dermatitis, kidney and liver abnormalities
- Cinoxate
- Padimate O (PABA) – attacks DNA, causes genetic mutation
- Octyl-dimethyl (PABA) – same as above, different name
- Octyl-methoxycinnamate (OMC) – kills skin cells
- Dioxybenzone
- Phenylbenzimidazole
- Homosalate
- Toluene – liver and kidney damage, birth defects
- Acrylamide – breast cancer
- Sulisobenzone
- Menthyl anthranilate
- Phenol carbolic acid – Circulatory collapse, paralysis, convulsions, coma, death from respiratory failure
- Trolamine salicyclate
- Octocrylene
If your sunscreen contains any of these chemicals, don’t use it, they are dangerous and not an organic sunscreen. IF a sunblock or skin protection is required, then use a natural product, Sometimes all that is needed is a moisturizer and botanicals to nourish and protect the skin from premature aging. Antioxidants are important to preserving and repairing skin that has been overexposed to sun. Think about it, antioxidants protect fruits and vegetables from sunlight. Works the same on human skin.
There are natural products that you can take as a pill and protect your skin from the inside out. No greasy, smelly lotions, no sand sticking to your lotion, no bees, flies or mosquitos attracted to your lotion… Quite a few benefits over sunscreen lotion. The main components are super antioxidants that repair cellular and DNA damage from radiation. CoQ10 and Resveratrol are also powerful cell protectors and rejuvenators.
A full suite of these anti aging, sunscreen and skin care protectors and rejuvenators can be found here:

It is up to you to protect yourself. Even the cancer society is pushing these dangerous chemical sunscreens as protection against skin cancer and sun damage. If you are going to use a sunscreen, make it an organic sunscreen and avoid the nasty chemicals in most commercial lotions. A suntan lotion should be natural and body friendly!

Masters Degree in Anti Aging Medicine
By · CommentsIt was merely a matter of time before the science of anti aging had a program in anti aging, let alone a masters degree in Anti Aging Medicine. The market has always been there. Finally real science and studies have proved it is possible to extend life and more importantly, raise the quality of life. Probably the biggest boost to the anti age science was the 2009 Nobel prize for medicine or physiology in the discovery of the telomerase action upon telomeres – lengthening cell life.
By preserving and even extending telomere length, Chromosomes (DNA), allows the number of times a cell can divide to increase. Previously, this was a fixed number assuming the best of conditions (living a perfectly healthy life without bad habits). Along with the extended cellular divisions, also comes youthful energy, strong immune system, fast growth, recovery and repair (as in youth).

Antioxidants and Anti Aging
By · Comments
Anti aging and antioxidants go hand in hand. They have a crucial role in health, wellness, longevity / life extension / anti aging and disease control. They prevent and repair damage done to the body’s cells and DNA from free radicals. Free radicals come from our environment and are also produced within our bodies as a result of metabolic waste (normal bodily processes). Even exercise, which is good for you produces free radicals as a byproduct of the burning of calories for energy production and repair. Free radicals enter the body through the air we breathe, food and drink we consume, products used and pollution absorbed through our skin as well as metabolic wastes and oxidation during the burning of energy. Smoking cigarettes is the largest free radical producer there is – don’t smoke cigarettes.
Free radicals are molecules which are missing an electron and makes for unstable molecules (positive charge). In order to balance it’s charge to neutral, it steals an electron from where ever it can find them – your cells and DNA. These unstable molecules have an accumulative effect on the body and cause oxidative stress. The ”hits” on our cells and DNA contribute to aging and if higher than normal free radicals and/or lower than “normal” antioxidants in the body, they contribute to premature aging. This damage is also a contributor to many diseases such as: heart disease, cancer, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, alzheimer’s, macular degeneration (leads to blindness), high blood pressure and many others.
The benefits of antioxidants are many as you can see from the list of diseases and antiaging benefits listed above. Antioxidants are produced within our bodies and also enter our bodies from food, mostly nuts, fruit and vegetables. Unfortunately we do not consume enough fresh organic fruits and vegetables to provide against free radical damage (5-8 servings per day). As we age, our bodies produce less and less antioxidants which contributes to and accelerates the aging process. With the benefit of adequate anti oxidants, our health, immune system and vitality operate at peak performance.
Fairly recently it has been discovered that these attacks on our DNA and specifically our telomeres determine cell lifespan. Telomeres are the protective ends of our chromosomes, which determine the number of times a cell can divide before cell death. By slowing down the oxidative damage to our cells and especially telomeres, we slow down the aging process. The activation of the enzyme telomerase can actually lengthen the telomeres and received a Nobel prize in 2009 for health or physiology. TA-65 is a highly concentrated extract of the Chinese herb Astragalus that activates the telomerase enzyme and lengthens the telomeres for life extension / antiageing abilities and actually reverse aging!
Back to antioxidants and their benefits. Primarily reducing cellular damage that affects the immune system and rate of aging. Vitality, health and energy production of the cells are side effects of adequate antioxidant levels. Research has shown Centenarians – those who live to 100 years old and beyond have elevated levels of antioxidants in there bodies and likely explain their long and healthy lives. Following is a list of antioxidants, both made by the human body and consumed as food and antioxidant supplements.
Powerful Antioxidants
- Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) -THE most powerful antioxidant – produced in the body
- Glutathione Peroxidase (GPX) - Very powerful antioxidant – produced in the body
- Catalase – (peroxiredoxin) enzyme in the body converts hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen
- Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) or ubiquinol - produced within the body
- Glutathione – also produced in the body
- Resveratrol and pterostilbenes
- Vitamins A, C and E – mainly supplied by food – Vitamin C not made in the body
- Carotenoids, flavinoids – supplied by foods
- Proteins and minerals – supplied by foods
Antioxidant supplements are a good way to provide additional support to our bodies against the ravages of free radicals. There are some supplements such as Superoxide Dismutase or SOD that require a delivery system to bypass the stomach where it is destroyed. As these natural health and anti age technologies advance, more and better anti aging products will come to market. What good is getting old if you can’t move or think? Extend the quality of your life and get the most out of life, enjoy your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren with the energy to keep up with them.

Resveratrol An Anti Aging Supplement
By · CommentsYou can’t turn around without seeing an advertisement or an article on the health benefits of resveratrol. Of course many inferior products have come out to capitalize on the hysteria. There is a reason for this, it is based upon the amazing benefits of reveratrol, a polyphenol with several health benefits shown through several scientific studies. The discovery of resveratrol came about as scientists were trying to figure out “the French paradox”, how a society that consumes a diet high in fats showed little cardiovascular issues or obesity. This contradicted the “fact” that fats and cholesterol cause heart disease – unfortunately many of today’s medical practitioners still believe this. Just look at the use of statin drugs to fight “high” cholesterol, the side effects are worse than the “supposed” cardiovascular benefits.
The “factor” that countered the high fat / high calorie diet was found to be red wine that was regularly drank with meals. Further studies on red wine found several health promoting components, the most significant of which was trans resveratrol. A phytoalexin produced by the grapes to protect itself from fungi and bacteria that may pose a threat to the plant – natures antibiotic. Antioxidants (including resveratrol) of the grape skins in the wine help to fight the wear and tear and daily free radical assault on our cells.
Many Benefits of Reveratrol:
- Powerful antioxidant that protects cellular DNA from free radicals
- Glucose metabolism – blood sugar regulation
- Reduce amyloid plaques in Alzheimer patients
- Mitochondrial energy production (in the cells)
- Anti-inflammatory
- Cancer prevention
- Heart health
Life Extension
Although human studies have yet to prove the life extension and anti aging qualities of resveratrol (trans resveratrol), multiple studies have shown significant life extension on yeasts, worms, rats, mice, effectively delaying cell death. Resveratrol creates the same life extension effect as caloric restriction – and who doesn’t over eat? By activating a family of genes called sirtuins it allows repair of damaged DNA and slows the aging process. Other benefits of SIRT1 (sirtuin 1) is increased cellular energy production and increased metabolism – burn more calories, faster healing…
Natural sources of resveratrol are:
- Red, purple or black grapes – especially Muscadine grapes
- Japanese knotweed
- Peanuts
- Mulberries
To obtain all the above benefits, you must use a resveratrol supplement as it is not possible to obtain it from foods or drink, over eating or that much wine without the negatives of excess alcohol. Obviously there were benefits at lower levels as shown in the French paradox studies. Minimum supplementation of trans resveratrol would be an oral dose of 25 mg extract, a more beneficial amount would be in the range of 100 mg of resveratrol extract. You don’t know if you don’t try. As with most natural supplements, a period of up to 3 months may be required to see benefits, sometimes much less.

Anti Aging Products
By · CommentsAnti Aging
The science of anti aging has made remarkable progress in the last decade. What once seemed to be a an unachievable goal is now within our grasp. The fountain of youth is no fountain, it’s science! Anti aging products are starting to appear all over, but like everything else, some are good and some worthless. So it helps to be aware of the science behind these products.
Probably the biggest discovery was awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of how chromosomes are protected by telomeres and the enzyme telomerase. Researchers Elizabeth H. Blackburn – University of California, Carol W. Greider – Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Jack W. Szostak – Harvard Medical School, split the award 3 ways. The telomerase enzyme stops the eroding at the ends of chromosomes that happens at every cell division, effectively stopping the aging process. The cells become immortalized!
TA-65
The main telomerase activator is a molecule called TA-65. TA-65 is derived from the Chinese herb Astragalus. You can’t just take the herb, it has to be concentrated so much, you could not possibly take that much of it to get the amount of TA-65 needed for telomerase activation. That is why TA-65 is expensive and hard to come by at this point in time. Like everything else, prices should come down as technology and possible other sources of TA-65 are found. This is cutting edge as it not only stops the erosion of the chomosomes, it actually extends them! This is what appears to be true life extension.
Not only does this process of gene activation add years of life, it adds quality healthy years. People with longer telomeres have less heart disease, stronger immune function and heal and repair much faster than those that don’t. There are other ways and supplements to affect gene expression, just not as powerful as TA-65.
Resveratrol
Resveratrol is another product we hear a lot about and for good reason. Resveratrol explains “the French paradox” – how a society that consumes a diet high in fat and calories remains slender. It has to do with their drinking of red wine at meals. Red wine contains resveratrol from the skins of grapes. This creates the same effect as caloric restriction which has been shown to extend lifespans. It does this by activating a family of genes called sirtuins. Sirtuins signal the body to put the brakes on aging to allow the body to repair it’s DNA – a stress response. Sirtuin 1 or SIRT1 gene increases metabolism and energy production.
Resveratrol acts as a potent antioxidant by binding to free radicals that damage every cells DNA. Also has cardiovascular benefits, mitochondrial energy production, glucose metabolism (blood sugar), cancer prevention, reduced amyloid plaques in Alzheimer patients and motor coordination and balance. Resveratrol is found in grapes, blueberries and cranberries but not in quantities required to create an anti-aging effect. That’s where potent, absorbable resveratrol supplements come in.
There are other anti aging products and systems out there (stress relief through various methods contributes to slowing the aging process). I will be adding a list of anti aging skin, anti aging cream, serums, moisturizers, anything anti age.
